About Me

Welcome! Welcome! So I’m Marteen and this is my website It’s A Travelful Life. What has inspired me to write? Well I’m a tour guide from Ireland with a BA in Heritage Studies. I’ve a passion for Irish culture and heritage and I want to share that passion with you. When I’m not travelling around my little country I’m travelling around other countries seeking cultural experiences. My dream is to run my own walking tour company and to work in cultural heritage conservation.

I believe that experiencing cultural heritage responsibly and expressing our own individual cultures is a human right. But what is Cultural Heritage? According to the Culture In Development website:

Cultural Heritage is an expression of the ways of living developed by a community and passed on from generation to generation, including customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values. Cultural Heritage is often expressed as either Intangible or Tangible Cultural Heritage.

So what’s in a name? One of my favourite films is It’s A Wonderful Life. I think everyone should watch this film at least once. I wanted my website’s name to incorporate the film’s name and to reflect that I intend to lead a more ‘travelful life’ through cultural experiences. Where to next for It’s A Travelful Life? That’s to be confirmed.

Who knows where my adventures will take me. I hope you will join me on this journey and enjoy reading my posts. If you would like me for freelance work or if you have any questions about Ireland, you can contact me at itsatravelfullife@gmail.com.

I work with The Quiet Man Museum in Cong. It’s been closed for the winter but is reopening next week. I show people around the locations that were used in the film and serve customers in the gift shop. I also give a ghost tour for the public and the PaddyWagon buses with the museum. I can’t wait to get back to work. We get a lot of PaddyWagon buses coming through the village and a lot of CIE buses book The Quiet Man tour. Patrick from PaddyWagon was create for rounding up the troops for the ghost tour 🙂

Ah that’s a pity! It isn’t easy getting over. There’ve been a few blogging events in Dublin that I haven’t been able to make. Yeah hopefully next year 😊
